What type of products do you sell?
Nokomis Clothing sells exclusively Canadian designed and manufactured women's clothing and accessories. As well, we also design and manufacture our own clothing line, also called Nokomis, which is available at select boutiques across Canada and the United States.
What made you decide to open that type of a store?
Elizabeth and I purchased Nokomis in 2007, after we had both worked for the store since it opened in 2002. We decided to maintain the mission of supporting the Canadian fashion industry and offering consumers an alternative to offshore, mass-produced clothing. Nokomis, which is the Ojibwa word for Grandmother, was chosen to show our respect and gratitude for the women who came before us.
When did you start using POS•IM?
Nokomis started using POS•IM in November 2007 when the store moved to a larger, more central location on Whyte Avenue - a popular shopping district in Edmonton. The software was necessary and incredibly helpful in keeping track of an increased number of sales and inventory items. The program is critical to efficiently keep track of the various styles, colours and sizes the store carries, and to maintain a good sales record and customer database.
Did you use a different POS system before POS•IM, or was POS•IM used when the store opened?
Before POS•IM was implemented, we used hand-written receipts and dated methods of accounting for inventory and reconciling sales. It was an incredibly inefficient and time-consuming process, which resulted in many inaccuracies and difficulty in using data as knowledge.
Why did you originally choose to purchase POS•IM?
We chose POS•IM because of the great user interface of the program, and because of the operational and reporting features that the program possessed. The Style Card feature is a highlight, allowing for detailed tracking of colours and sizes of styles. As well, the POS•IM staff was incredibly helpful throughout the software purchasing process - answering our numerous questions, and providing guidance running the demo software.
What benefits has your store received by using Point of Sale?
The turn around time of a sale is much quicker now, and human error when calculating discounts and totals is reduced. As well, keeping track of daily and monthly sales is much easier, as is performing day-to-day sales floor restocks.
What is your favorite feature in POS•IM?
POS•IM has a strong reporting system, which not only has a good number of useful reports handy, but also allows us to customize our own reports, providing us with the information we find valuable. As well, the Inventory Client program allows us to keep track of our stock much easier and more accurately.
Would you recommend POS•IM to other retailers? Why?
We would recommend POS•IM due to its intuitive and easy-to-use interface. It has a simple and clean look, and is easy for all staff to use. As well, the functions and features POS•IM offers are useful and powerful tools to accurately track inventory and sales, and to provide management with the information necessary to improve overall sales.
